A WONDERFUL SECOND ANNUAL 1, 2, 3 CANAL! RACE IN THE CITY OF TOULOUSE

After the success of the first race to support the Canal du Midi when 1,000 people participated in the race through the streets of Toulouse in 2015, VNF decided to hold the second race to support replanting the trees along the Canal du Midi on 10 April 2016.

Fabien Pelous, who is from the region and who was captain of the French rugby team and the Toulouse Stadium, agreed to be the patron of this race and wear the colours of the Canal du Midi! Like him, many of you actively participated in our efforts to save this exceptional piece of our heritage.

In order to appeal to everyone from children to adults, athletes to amateurs, and families and friends, three routes were offered: a 2.5 km route accessible to families with children and two timed routes, 5 and 10 km respectively, for more athletic participants.

All profits went to the programme to restore the Canal du Midi.

2015 PHOTO CONTEST

A BIG THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND PARTICIPATION!

There was a wonderful fund-raising event entitled “Canal du Midi Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow: its History is Written by You”. During this event, VNF organised a photo contest called #DesBateauxPourLeCanal [Boats for the Canal] from 17 July to 15 September 2015.

Through this context, you supported replanting the Canal du Midi since for every photo that you published, €1 was given to this ambitious programme by our partner Locaboat, a company that specialises in river tourism.

A big thank you to our partner Locaboat Holidays which donated a cruise worth €1,097 to the winner of the ‪#‎DesBateauxPourLeCanal contest: Marie-Christine Moreno.

THANK YOU EVERYONE!

MORE THAN ONE THOUSAND PEOPLE PARTICIPATE IN THE 1, 2, 3 CANAL! RACE TO SAVE THE TREES OF THE CANAL DU MIDI

On Sunday, 12 April 2015, more than 1,000 runners and walkers came to support the project to save the Canal du Midi, a UNESCO world heritage site.

This first race organised by VNF in support of the canal was a chance to bring together athletes and amateurs as well as friends and families to participate in one of three different routes. We met in the streets of Toulouse and along the Canal du Midi to raise funds for replanting trees that were affected by ceratocystis canker disease. This race was a unique opportunity to raise awareness about saving this exceptional piece of our heritage and a chance to spend time with friends and family in the sunny city of Toulouse.

Jérôme Fernandez, a handball player and captain of the French team, acted as patron for this first race in support of the canal. He attended the event and gave the starting signal for the race.

The VNF team would like to thank all participants, volunteers, and partners who helped with this fun and unforgettable sporting event.

Thanks to you, we will be able to save the Canal du Midi, its trees, edges, and more!
